Making
sweets is such a fun thing to do that we think it's worth having a
little experiment & making a few for stocking fillers
even if you
are resolute about not making presents. There's such a variety
to choose from too - maybe more than you'd think. As you'd
imagine, a lot of this involves a little bit of last minute work.
Truffles
really have to be fresh, but they are incredibly quick to make.
Peppermint creams are also quick & easy, as are marzipan
sweets. Fudge
& toffee are also quick to make but a little bit more
demanding because
you really have to use a sugar thermometer (well Christmas Mattes
does at least!).
They are, however, guaranteed to go down an absolute
storm. There
are few rather old-fashioned sweets that
need to be started on a little while in advance, so if you are the sort
of person who thrives on Christmas preparations weeks in advance, then
fruit comfits
& chocolate covered candied peel are for you. A
good tip is to keep a look out during the year for boxes, tins
&
jars (for toffee) that could be used to present your sweets in.
Or you could really push the boat out & make your own
papier mache boxes or bowls. It's also a
good idea to read our information on wrapping
edible gifts. |
