The
way we look at Christmas is to a large extent filtered through art.
Whatever our opinions are on what Christmas means, the art of Christmas
is generally available to all, a spirit of happiness and generosity and
shared culture. Whether that's films,
TV, books, art or music there
really is something for everyone.
There is a wealth
of Christmas Music, from
the great singles of
the 1970s, through folk and
traditional music to the riches of the classical tradition.
Some of the greatest classical music for Christmas was written by
Johann Sebastian Bach, his Christmas
Oratorio and other
Christmas music are covered here. Christmas films are a
particularly good way of experiencing the spirit of Christmas.
There are some that are about Christmas and others that feature
memorable Christmases and many of the classics (although not all,
sadly!) are available on DVD to watch at home if there is nothing on
the TV. Christmas stories for children
are one of the ways in which the season gets a special character all of
its own. In our Christmas Books
section you will find a selection of
some well-known and not so familiar classics. Our Christmas Stories
page will be added to as the season progresses, with stories you can
print off and read out to your kids. |
