There
are so many lovely Christmas books for children that it's difficult to
know where to start. We've included books here that have caught our eye
- or that our own children are particularly fond of.
One bit of
advice we can give is not to worry too much about age recommendations
for these books. Small children can enjoy even the books that are
mostly text. Our two (nearly 5 now) love going through the pictures in
the Tolkien Letters from
Father Christmas book with a bit of explanation
of what's going on in them. Sometimes it's nice to get to know a book
gradually, over the years. And the simpler, picture-based books are
equally suitable for younger and older children, we think.
So, we've split this page into two sections - the
first for books that are mostly
pictures, the second for more
wordy books. Plus an in-betweeny
section for, well, in-betweeny kind of books.
As
this section just keeps on getting bigger, descriptions are now in
little pop-up windows that you can get to by clicking on each picture.
However, we know not everyone is keen on pop-ups - do let us know if
this was a bad idea!
There are 7 new books included for 2008. Picture books:
Wenceslas,
Harvey
Slumfenberger's Christmas Present, A Christmas Story
& Baboushka and
the Three Kings. In-betweens: All
the Way to Santa Claus & The Man Who Wore All his Clothes.
And the more wordy Papa
Panov's Special Day.
