These felt stockings are fun to make & have a multitude of uses - as tree decorations, as wrapping for small gifts, as Christmas card toppers & place markers at the Christmas dinner table. You could also use them for party favours at kids' Christmas parties. The plan at Christmas Matters is to personalise themFelt stocking Christmas decoration with our kids' names, fill them with sweets & hang them on our tree.

You will need:

Paper & pen
Felt
Contrasting felt for a trim
Fabric glue
Needle & thread in a co-ordinating colour
Ribbon for hanging
Decorations - ribbons, sequins, beads, bows, fabric paints - for your finishing touches

Method:

Draw a stocking template & cut out 2 from your felt. Cut 2 small rectangular pieces of felt for the trim. Fix the trim to the top of each stocking shape with a thin layer of glue & leave to dry. Before sewing the 2 halves of the stocking together decorate with beads, sequins, glitter or whatever else takes your fancy. Sew the stocking together using blanket stitch or a small running stitch. Attach a ribbon to hang the stocking (if you want to put it on your tree or hang elswhere).
