This dove seems a particularly appropriate decoration for New Year.  It would be nice to perhaps put it up just from New Year's Eve to Epiphany (Jan 6).

You will need:A felt dove

A template - look on the web for examples if you aren't up for drawing one yourself
A piece of felt large enough to cut out 2 of your chosen template
A dressmakers pen/chalk/felt tip pen
Embroidery thread
Filling material
A large embroidery needle
Ribbon
Glue/thin cotton & sewing needle
Bead for eye (if using)

Method:

Pin your template to the felt & cut out 2 dove shapes or draw round the template & then cut out the felt. Thread your needle & sew the 2 halves of the dove together with a small running stitch.  Start your stitching close to the area where you will put the ribbon for hanging.  When you have almost sewn round the entire dove fill it with wadding (you can make it as fat as you like!).  Pin your hanging ribbon on & test to see if it hangs as you want it to - make adjustments as necessary, then glue or sew the ribbon to the inside edges of the dove.  Finish by completing the running stitch round the edge & make an eye with a French knot or sew on a little bead.
