Some simple card
ideasSave
last year's Christmas cards & then cut them out in sections
&
stick them to new card. You can use glitter, silver & gold pens
& stickers to liven them up a bit. Get
your kids to
get busy with paint, glue, glitter, silver & gold pens, tissue
paper etc on large pieces of paper. You can then cut out
sections
of their artwork (or even artistically tear it!) & stick it to
newly
folded card. This is an especially good technique for younger kids -
it's an abstract look you are aiming for.
Make potato
print or sponge print cards.
You can buy some lovely metallic paints which look fab. If you
want to
save your pennies & use potato prints then a good tip is to
leave
the carved potato to dry out for a bit before you start using it. Make
a stencil of a simple shape - a Christmas tree, a star - and use
spray paint to spray the shape on to the card. Make sure your
surfaces are WELL protected & your room well ventilated.
Obviously this isn't a great idea
for
very young kids. If you & your kids are handy
with the scissors you could cut out snowflakes - you
can either do very simple ones, or make more
complicated snowflakes which look incredibly effective,
& stick to cards. Or cut out a window-shaped hole in
the card & stick cellophane or tissue paper over the back to
create a stained glass window! You can also create
stuff using your PC. Draw a very simple design using any paint/draw
software that you have & just print it straight onto
card. Or if you have a suitable photo (a snowy scene, or last
year's Christmas
tree looking gorgous with all your homemade tree decorations)
you could print copies onto photo paper & stick them to folded
card. More sophisticated card
ideasUse
felt cut-outs & ribbons to make collages &
stick to folded card. You can sew on beads & sequins to add to
the
Christmas glitter. Simple shapes such as presents, Christmas trees,
Christmas stockings & stars are the most effective. Make
small embossed panels
& mount on coloured card for a very dramatic look. Use
coloured card & handmade papers & simple printing
techniques to create a layered look that is very effective. Use acetate sheets & glass paints to create lovely stained-glass window effect cards. |
